I myself believe that the 2017 film just completely and utterly missed the mark in terms of the execution of the themes and messages espoused in the 1995 film. I think that the whole “Memories don’t define us, What we do defines us” narrative is hollow and uninteresting. What I liked about the live action film was the CGI though I think they did a pretty good job in the visual effects department. Sadly, the plot in the 2017 movie was, in my view, oversimplified and closed the door on a lot of the interpretation that the 1995 version invited.
