I came by way of the books.<br />I'd like to add that part of the success of the TV series is in the richness of the characters, the dialogue, the plots and the attention to natural details. Luca Zingaretti is absolutely Montalbano. <br />As a comparison, I watched the Wallander series, again having come to it via the books. The Swedish series was good. Despite Kenneth Branagh, the English TV version was bland. No dialogue , no development of characters and even the stories were sacrificed in the making.
